There were two initiatives on the ballot Tuesday in Washington, both aimed
at killing the state monopoly on distilled spirits sales, and at ending the
three-tiered distribution system created in the aftermath of prohibition.
The three tiered system was a response to the abuses in the distribution
system that earlier had fueled the fires of dry sentiment.


AP: Costco-backed liquor privatization effort rejected

The Associated Press has called the Costco-backed liquor initiative, saying
voters rejected I-1100, which would have gotten the state out of the
business of selling hard alcohol.
