I have finished a review of Forces of Habit: Drugs and the Making of the
Modern World by David Courtwright for the New England Journal of
Medicine. I really enjoyed the book. I have suggested it to our
undergraduate "History Book Club" for summertime reading.

The book is engaging to read, and provides a truly broad perspective. I
recommend it highly.
