A strange croaking song came from the wooded swamp/marsh at Brushy Fork
Bay on Clendenning Lake (parked at Brushy Fork and Elk Run and walked to
the end of Brushy Fork). Thanks to my wife buying me a Bird Jam for my
birthday, I was able to ID it as a Common Merganser by going through the
marsh group. I heard this call last year several times and told Scott
Albaugh there was a strange bird in this area. Hopefully, a canoe trip
will confirm this auditory ID and possible breeding.
In my struggle to learn bird songs, I heard no less than 5 through the fog
that I could not ID except to say, warbler! All is not lost I was able to
recognize Cerulean, Hooded, Kentucky and Redstart.
