Today on a visit to the Miller farm to see the Black-bellied Whistling
Ducks, the 9 ducks were active and feeding in the middle of the pond.
Mother was whistling quietly. First at a distance and then circling closer
and lower we saw an adult bald eagle. The ducks became still. Suddenly we
saw a Red-tailed Hawk flying above followed by a second. The first hawk
dived at the eagle and both hawks circled above it until the eagle gave up
and flew away. Subsequently the ducks returned to full activity. It was
very interesting to see the hawks probably preventing the eagle from taking
one of the ducks.
