Rain didn't stop migration at these two hot spots along the Scioto River
near downtown Columbus. Numbers were mixed, but diversity was high as I
walked the bikepath in both parks. Notables for 2 hours included:
Cuckoo - 1 Yellow-billed flew up into a small tree at my finish in
Berliner, a great send-off
woodpeckers - not much other than the expected
Flycatchers - lots of Pewees, but also had Acadian, Least, Willow, and
Gr.Crested
Swallows - small #s of Trees, Rough-wings, Barns, and Cliffs, mostly above
the Greenlawn Dam
Vireos - large #s of Warbling & Red-eyed, with only single White-eyed &
Yellow-throateds
Thrushes - fallout of Swainsons -- they were everywhere -- and looking
through them found Wood, Veery, and Gray-cheeked
Mimids - nothing but Catbirds, which were common & feisty
Warblers - double-digits of Yellows, Blackpolls, and Redstarts. Also good
numbers of Chestnut-sided, Bay-breasted, and Tennessees. Smaller numbers
of Parulas, Yellow-throated, Blackburnian, Black-thr.Greens,
Com.Yellowthroats, Magnolias, Wilson's and Canadas (3 in Berliner!).
Singles of Hooded, Ovenbird, Prothonotary, all in Berliner
Buntings,Grosbeaks - lots of Indigo Buntings in both parks. Only 1
Rose-br.Grosbeak
Tanagers - 1-2 Scarlets in each park
Sparrows - nothing unusual
Orioles - LOTS of Baltimores in both parks; single Orchard males singing in
each park
