I have had the pleasure of seeing Barred Owls frequently this past week in a few places at Punderson State Park.
Tonight, however, after sunset I spooked an owl from his perch. this was the only way I would've even known it was there.
I got to watch it for about 5 seconds as it flew sideways past me on his way to "safety" from me. The owl appeared to be sized right in the middle of a Barred Owl and a Sawet Owl and had slender somewhat pointy wings. I have seen Barred, Short-eared and Great Horned owls that all seem to have thicker, rounder wings.
I am thinking that it may have been a Long-eared Owl, but I cannot find any flight pictures to compare what I saw to.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions??
