A few of us birded at Buck Creek State Park (Clark County northeast of
Springfield) this morning. There are still some ducks on the lake. We saw
Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, Blue-winged Teal, Green-winged Teal, Lesser
Scaup, and Red-breasted Merganser. We also saw a Common Loon. New arrivals
included 4 Caspian Terns, a Forster's Tern, and two Ospreys at the north end
of the lake. There is a flock of cormorants around and we also saw a single
Sandhill Crane circling but I think it continued on its migration. We also
saw a single Barn Swallow feeding over the lake. At the south end of Hodge
Road just east of the state park we found some Savannah Sparrows.
