Looks like widespread appearances of Franklin's gulls in the east. In
Florida, where they are usually eagerly sought for (and painstakingly
distinguished from laughing gulls), they have more than they can handle.
Some have showed up in Maine, and the Canadian maritime provinces are
buzzing (practice your francais on "On observe présentement une invasion
sans précédent de Mouettes de Franklin dans l'est de lAmérique et autour
des Grands Lacs: eg plus d'une centaine en Ohio, 20 au Connecticut, 200
à cape May, 41 à Brooklyn, NY, etc.")
One hint for birders in drier spots: if you have farmers plowing at this
time, this would be attractive to Franklin's, as they love picking up
insects, etc. turned up in the process, and you could find some any time
you see plowing.
