This morning when I went to Alum Creek and Hoover Reservoirs, killdeer
were present at both places. A lone turkey vulture was soaring over the
tree line on the east side of Hoover Reservoir just above the dam. I
thought I saw a northern rough-winged swallow next to the boat house
behind the Hoover office but I couldn't get close enough to tell for
sure. So if you're in the area, keep your eyes peeled for it.
On October 30, I saw a brown thrasher at Lazelle Woods Park (Franklin
County) at about 8:30 in the morning. I didn't think much of it at the
time but I received the fall 2008 issue of the Cardinal the other day and
noticed that the late date for that species that year was october 5 at
Buck Creek.
