In Geauga County, at the old high school off the town square in Burton, I
counted approx. 260 chimney swifts going into the school chimney at 8:35 -
8:40pm. The birds were flying all around and building in numbers for almost
an hour before going into the chimney.

School in Dublin, OH

I counted swifts Wed eve Aug 25 at Sells in Dublin. They started going in at
8:26pm and finished at 8:43pm.

They doubled in numbers from last Sat. There were 859 birds that dove into
the chimney. I will be back on Sat Aug 26 to count.

Check https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/@5152333 Go about 20 minutes before
sunset.

Count on!!

Subject: [Ohio-birds] The Chimney Swifts are staging at Sells Middle School
in Dublin, OH

Hi Birders and fellow conservation folks,

This past Wed eve, Aug 16, I went to Sells MS at 8:15pm. Not too many swifts
at first. By 8:40pm, the numbers were growing and seemed to get serious to
tighten the circle and speed up, dipping at the large brick chimney. BTW,
you need to drive behind the school to view the action! The first bird went
in at 8:47pm and the last bird entered at 9:02pm for a total of 370 birds
packed in the chimney.

On Sat Aug 19, I went again at 8:15pm and the first birds went in at 8:33pm
and by 8:57pm the last birds went in for a total of 432 swifts tucked in for
the night.

Be sure to watch your local chimneys just before sunset to watch the birds
appearing from all directions. View website Sunrise Sunset for your
reference of the city you are viewing from and the dates. The birds usually
finish by the end of the first or 2nd week of Oct.

They will soon be headed to the Amazon Basin of Peru for the winter. It is a
sight to see when they appear to be sucked into the tall chimney stack. Be
sure to post your sightings on eBird.

Count on!!!

Darlene Sillick
