I took the following picture with my 400 mm lens from the end of the boardwalk - a long shot for an effective 600 mm focal length but oh well. http://www.ohiobirds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=867 I'm not good with ID'ing shorebirds but looking at Sibley's I'm thinking could this have been an adult nonbreeding Bonaparte's Gull? Lorain Impoundment, 9:30-11:00 a.m.
A steady stream of smelly sludge was being pumped into the impoundment,
creating a strong current that moved west and, then, north. Most of the
shorebirds were in the wet area on the north side of the dike.
Semipalmated Plover - 3
Killdeer - ~20
Spotted Sandpiper - 7
Lesser Yellowlegs - 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper - ~12
Least Sandpiper - 3
Oakwood Park, East 31st Street, 11:30 a.m.
Red-headed Woodpecker - 3; 2 adults & 1 fledgling
The adults were chasing the fledgling away from the nest tree where they
were actively feeding nestling(s).
