I went to Best today to have a look at the red necked grebe that Kim Savides found there
a couple of days ago. It was very close to shore and I could get really good views of it in
the bright light today. Also a handful of pied billed grebes and two ring necked ducks.
Along the trail (maybe the goldenrod trail?) a small flock of birds, a mix of bluebirds,
goldfinches and house finches, located a northern shrike in a small tree. About 15
birds chattered and scolded from the twigs at the top of the little tree, and the bluebirds
even made a few tentative approaches.
