I was at our Hogback Ridge Park in Madison Township, Lake County today and
had a singing yellow-throated warbler. I also had an osprey flying along
the Grand River.
This evening at my house in North Perry there was a good movement of gulls
flying west along the lakeshore. It was a steady stream with about 1/3 of
the birds being herring gulls and the remainder being ring-billed. There
was also a single glaucous, 2 lesser and 6 great black-backed gulls. There
were a few Bonaparte's moving along the lake also. I didn't see anything
with them. I did see three Caspian terns also.
This has been an amazing March. I also had four species of dragonflies and
damselflies. There were lots of green darners and a springtime darner. I
also had 70+ fragile forktails and 6 eastern forktails. Both forktails and
the springtime darner are about a month early. I posted some photos of them
on rarebird.org. I also had 6 species of butterflies including a tiger
swallowtail. Lots of early wildflowers also.
