Behind Euclid Hospital about 3pm observed a continuous flow of gulls E to W
and many resting on the water waaay out in the lake. I'm not good enough at
on-the-wing identification to go beyond the obvious Ring-billed and Herring,
but the constant movement was impressive.
Sims Park was a bit more interesting. The continuous flow of gulls was also
seen here. A dozen or so Canada Geese on the beach with 6 Mallards.
Hundreds of Red-breasted Mergansers scattered across the viewing area.
About 100 or so Common Goldeneye, mostly E of the pier and most concentrated
closer to shore. The males were spectacular and the females so easy to
I.D..
Final comment - dress warm with head covering. The last few warm days got
me a bit complacent about winter clothing and I did not last long on the
pier with just a parka minus the hood!
