Greetings -
Jerry McWilliams, a keen birder just across the border in Erie, PA, had 23 Brant and 745 Northern Pintail, plus the first Surf and White-winged Scoters of the season on his almost-daily waterbird count from Presque Isle State Park.
Even further afield, multiple jaegers (Parasitic and Long-tailed) in Indiana and Illinois, plus a movement of southbound Nelson's Sparrows throughout the region, and a Green-tailed Towhee just discovered today in Illinois are signally a massive seasonal change.
Take a look at the Ontario birds listserv and you'll find a host of awesome species that are just north of us on Lake Ontario: Sabine's Gulls, Black-legged Kittiwake, Long-tailed and Parasitic Jaegers, Horned Grebes, Common and Red-throated Loons...
Birds are one the move, bigtime. Thank you cold front via the Hudson Bay...JB
