As I quickly headed for the bike trail after work to get in a ride I was treated to a couple of "birdy"
events. About 6:30 PM two adult sandhill cranes were feeding in the pasture on the east side of
Aquilla Rd, north of Spencer and Mayfield (US322) Rds. This is a good spot for crane sightings and
they were pretty near the road. Secondly, I came to a spot on the Maple Highlands Bike Trail central
section between SR 608 and Stilwell Rds. There is a wetland just north of the trail between the 4.5 &
5 mile markers and I arrived just as the Canada geese and wood ducks were bedding down for the
night. I just hung out for a while listening to the wood ducks call back and forth to each other
reminding me of one big family saying its drawn out "goodnights".
