After the Kirtland Bird Club field trip to Mosquito Creek and Grand River
Wildlife Areas today, we stopped to check the location of an Osprey nest I
have in my OBBA block. This nest is on the top of a communications tower on
SR-87 just west of SR-46. Sure enough the female was sitting on the nest,
but to our surprise we saw two additional Osprey up there with her. A
smaller bird, I guess the male, was on top to the left of the nest, and
there also was a third bird to the right of the nest. Do last years young
stay with the family unit like this?
