Thanks, Bob, but I would like to add a little more emphasis on the restricted access aspect of the sanctuary. Trespassing in the sanctuary, beyond the observation platform or beyond any of the boundaries is forbidden. This restriction is enforced by three police departments and violations are punished with significant fines. This is a wildlife sanctuary, not a birding destination, except for occasional guided walks and the "Big Day." It's the only place among the thousands of acres, preserves and trails in Mill Creek Metroparks where birds and other wildlife are not stressed or disturbed. Just one example of potential disturbance is the immediate flight of the hundreds of ducks of many species that feed and rest here when anyone even walks within several hundred feet of these flocks.
