I was in the Sandusky are this weekend. I didn't find anything that rare, but there are some decent birds around.
November 10
At East Harbor State Park there was a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL. It was in a red cedar tree at the far southeast corner of the park, along the inlet to the harbor. There were also 4 COMMON REDPOLLS in the same area. There were 6 Forster's terns, 1 common tern, and a northern rough-winged swallow in West Harbor (take the road leading to east harbor all the way north). Surprisingly after the snow and cold weather earlier this week, I had a single common buckeye butterfly, 2 familiar bluet damselflies, and on autumn meadowhawk dragonfly.
At the beach in Port Clinton there were 4 snow geese amongst the several hundred Canada geese. There were also 3 HUDSONIAN GODWITS in the same area.
At Medusa Marsh there were 8 great egrets and 4 tree swallows.
Off Rte 4 in Sandusky, just north of Rte 2 there were 4 CATTLE EGRETS.
November 11
There were large numbers of Bonaparte's gulls in Huron. Amongst the Bonaparte's were two LITTLE GULLS, an adult and a juvenile. On the mudflat west of the river there were several hundred gulls there was a LAUGHING GULL and an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. I was surprised to see very few red-breasted mergansers there. I did have a LONG-TAILED DUCK. There were also 2 flyby COMMON REDPOLLS.
