On Thursday I visited the Detroit River Hawk Watch for the first time. The Turkey Vulture total there on the 19th was 2873. After that the highest numbers were of Sharp-shinned and Red Tailed hawks. A highlight of my visit was the 1 immature Golden Eagle.
I was surprised to note that compared to all the other US hawk watch sites online the DRHW had the highest numbers by far that day. It is well worth a visit, especially if you want practice identifying distant hawks.
Happy birding,
Betsy Mac
