Mike West of the Columbiana County Park Board and a group of canoeists, reported to us this evening at Beaver Creek State Park, that they encountered a female Common Merganser with two very young babies in the West Fork of Little Beaver Creek this afternoon. They were able to float right by the new family and report that they were able to take some pictures for documentation. The location was between the Steubenville Pike Road (CR413) canoe launch and the McCormick Road (TR781) bridge, south of SR518. This area is about 2.5 miles southwest of the town of West Point. If verified, this will add another confirmation of Common Merganser in a new Block (53C6CW), during The Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II.
