A northern saw-whet owl is calling ceaselessly in my back yard now. I
pulled up a tape on the internet and played it with the door open, and
now it's all upset. This might be a good time to listen for these owls,
which are a lot more common than widely realized, but are hard as heck
to see, although at this time of year the pop-pop-pop call of migrants
should be evident on gloomy days like this when they're around.
