It was a wow day at Conneaut harbor today. I was there most of the day, I'm pretty tired-eyed so here's the tally: 7 sp. of puddle ducks, 13 sp. of shorebirds, 7 sp. of gulls. Highlights: 2 little gulls (adult & second-winter), first-cycle Franklin's gull, first-cycle lesser black-backed gull, 3 Am. golden-plovers, 2 Am. avocets, western sandpiper, white-rumped sandpiper, 3 stilt sandpipers, 2 juv. black-crowned night-herons, and common tern. Max. count of Bonaparte's gulls was 500 in the afternoon. The rain was constant so I only did a half hour of sparrow searching, which turned up several song, swamp, and white-throateds. With this weather there should be plenty of birds there tomorrow too. Craig Holt, Lowellville
