Activity continues to be very slow here in terms of waterfowl. A few Common
Loons were the best, joined by small groups of Ruddy Ducks and Hooded
Mergansers. Gulls were more numerous, with respectable numbers of
Bonaparte's (~200), fewer Ring-bills (60-80), and an honored several
Herrings. An adult Bald Eagle was calling briefly to a juvenile, possibly
its own? My highlight was a delightful collection of songbirds gathered
along one of the park roads near the beach area (close to where the Northern
Shrike was last winter), including: Dark-eyed Junco (20+); White-crowned,
White-throated, Tree, Song, and Field Sparrows; and miscellaneous Cardinals,
Blue Jays, woodpeckers, and others. I used my car as a blind for 10-15
minutes enjoying the show!
